Welcome to the Hospice of Peace family. We're so excited to invite you for the opportunity to be part of the team. Hospice volunteers play a crucial role in providing compassionate care and support to patients nearing the end of life and their families. Volunteers offer companionship, emotional support, and practical assistance to enhance the quality of life for hospice patients during this delicate time. They work closely with the hospice team to ensure patients and their families receive comprehensive care and support. Responsibilities: Provide companionship and emotional support to hospice patients by engaging in conversation, reading, playing music, or simply being present. Offer respite care to primary caregivers, allowing them time to attend to personal needs or obligations. Assist with basic household tasks such as light meal preparation, light housekeeping, or running errands for the patient or family. Help facilitate recreational activities or hobbies that the patient enjoys, if appropriate. Listen empathetically to patients and their families, offering a supportive presence and a compassionate ear. Respect the privacy and dignity of patients and their families at all times. Communicate effectively and collaborate with the hospice interdisciplinary team, including nurses, social workers, chaplains, and other volunteers. Participate in ongoing training and education provided by the hospice program to enhance volunteer skills and knowledge related to end-of-life care. Maintain confidentiality regarding patient information and adhere to all policies and procedures of the hospice program. Provide feedback and suggestions for improving the volunteer program and enhancing the care provided to patients and families. ​ Qualifications: Compassionate and empathetic attitude toward individuals facing end-of-life issues. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to maintain professional boundaries and confidentiality. Reliable and responsible, with a commitment to fulfilling volunteer obligations. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of patients and families. Willingness to undergo background checks and any required training or certifications. Previous experience in hospice care or volunteering is preferred but not required. ​ Physical Requirements: Volunteers may need to be able to: Stand, sit, or walk for extended periods. Lift and carry light objects or assist patients with mobility, as needed. Navigate various environments within the patient's home or care facility.
